Why, oh why, oh why can’t you download Apple Quicktime without downloading iTunes? There are several websites I visit in Firefox that require Quicktime. I get a Firefox prompt which says “You need to download an extension to view this site” or something like that. So I click on “download extension”. A window pops up which says it can’t be done automatically and has a handy-dandy button availble that says “manual download”. So I click that. It takes me to the Apple Quicktime site where I deselect the mailers they want to send me and click on FREE DOWNLOAD. My Firefox download box comes up and says . . . Downloading iTunes! I don’t want iTunes. I don’t have an iPod, and don’t plan to get one. I already have some iTunes crap on my computer, because everytime it’s running slowly I look to see what applications are running and there are at least 3 which are related to iTunes that I have to close out. Sigh. Why give me crap I don’t want!!!

I want quicktime but not itunes
I found a bunch of blogs that indicate how you can install standalone without iTunes. For example:

Maybe, maybe not, but it might be worth a try!

Here is a page about Quicktime for Firefox users. It offers a link to the stand-alone download.
I hope that’s helpful.
