Tech Question
My husband is a deacon at our church, in charge of media in general - video, audio, etc. (I like to call him the Deacon of All Media) I have been nagging him to get our preacher’s sermons on a podcast — but neither he nor I have any idea of how to go about it. If any of my readers have any knowledge in this area, I’d love some pointers and/or links. I think I’m going to take this on as my own project, then let Squid know I’ve got it all figured out.
Thanks for any help you can give me!

Your preacher thanks you. He’s been wanting to find someone to do this for months, but didn’t know who to ask. Evidently, the God for Whom he speaks knew who to ask. Let me know how I can help.

Do they record them at the moment? Is it digitally? I’m not sure about the mike-to-digital stuff, but getting it onto the computer is the hard part. After that, you take whatever format the audio is in, convert to MP3, and there ya go.
A podcast is just an MP3 file, really.

Mark, glad I could be of help, it just occured to me this morning.
Andrea, according to Mark, he can get it digitized, we just didn’t know how to go about “casting” it. Are there websites that host podcasts, or is there a way our church can put it on their own website?. I’m not sure who our webmaster is, so don’t want to insult, but I think it’s just someone from church who put a site together. I’m guessing they may not know how to make it available on the TCOC website.

Once you have a copy on the computer there are lots of utilities to convert to various formats. If you want true ‘pod’casts then probably iTunes will be one of the tools you will use. I don’t remember what formats iTunes can convert but it will export mp3’s which have the iPod header.
