Evan Almighty
Evan Almighty is out today on DVD. If I hadn’t received this one free for review, I think I might even buy it — and I don’t really buy movies very often. I was pleasantly surprised that I liked the movie. I do NOT like The Office, nor anything else I’ve seen Steve Carrell in up to this point, so it took a while for me to get into the movie. Neither this movie nor Bruce Almighty had super-deep theological insight and yet both do make you think about what Religion says is the nature of God vs. how He has actually revealed himself. This one does bring up some interesting questions to discuss with the family — WAS the original flood all about God’s wrath? Where do we see God’s love in that story? How was this different? I did like the way they made a way around God’s promise never to flood the world again.
Overall, a nice family movie, although not as hilariously funny as the first one. I do think it’s a little more kid-friendly than Bruce Almighty.
I was provided this movie by Click Communications for the purpose of review.

Steve Carrell bothers me in general. I’m not sure what it is. I’ve enjoyed The Office except the scenes he’s in. Any ads I see for his movies just totally turn me off. I don’t have the slightest idea why this is as I don’t really have anything against him.
And totally off topic, but I noticed your Fiona information in the sidebar, and the smaller one talks about her fingernails needing cutting soon. It immediately reminded me of the little fingernails I neither cut nor cleaned tonight. They’re on a four year old boy and are beyond ick at this point.

I haven’t seen it yet. Probably won’t. There is a chunk of popular culture that came out in late 2006-early 2007 that I will always associate with cancer. And so lots of good movies that came out then I will never be able to watch.
Just found you on Blog Soldiers. This post makes you seem Christian. Is this so?

Sam — I am so with you on the 4yo fingernails. I just caught Monkey Boy and did his a couple of days ago — mostly because he’s been scratching when he’s mad. Otherwise, I’d probably keep seeing them and saying “Oh, I really need to cut those nasty things.”
Scott — Thanks for stopping by! I haven’t surfed Blog Soldiers in so long, I”m surprised I’m still in there! Yes, I am a Christian, as is my husband Squid, who blogs here at homeschooljournal as well. You might enjoy some of his blog posts.

Hi Gem!!!!!!
How are you feeling? I can’t wait to see Fiona! Woot! I better be welcomed over after she is born! I promise to bring dinner AND dessert! And presents! I love to buy girly baby stuff! Yay!
We all loved “Evan Almighty”. We saw it at the drive in over the summer. It’s so rare to have a movie with any form of Christianity in it that has any message in it at all, you know? And I’m so glad they did it in a comedic form with pretty big stars so that it will reach more people.
Hugs to you and all the kidlets!

Hi Gem,
I had to put you on my blogroll, because I like your blog. Your kids are so cute, and I think I saw that you are pregnant now! That makes me wish I was about two years in the future, because then I will be a pediatrics nurse. My heart is really for helping hurt and sick kids. (Matthew 25:36)
Oh, if you like what I blog about (basically summed up in my subtitle), please reciprocal link me! That’d be awesome!
Thanks!
