Homeschool no more . . .
Posted by: | Commentsat least in spirit only. The girls started their first day of public school today. I thought I would cry, but I guess I have too much other stuff going on right now. I have been going thru a grieving process, letting go of that ideal for now in order to work & keep my husband from working himself to death. I seriously still consider us homeschoolers at heart, and believe me this is one mama who is NOT turning her kids over to the gov’t to raise. Frankly, I consider school more of a free daycare system, but I know I owe the kids a better experience than that so I’m not sharing that with them.
Duncan starts a fine-arts charter tomorrow. Hopefully the girls will get in at semester or next fall, as it is right up their alley — specializing in band & chorus as well as a very rigorous theatre program.
I’m a little apprehensive about Duncan’s class. There are 25 Kindergarten and 1st graders in there with ONE teacher and NO aide. Seriously, I thought that charters were better for student/teacher ratio. Of course if you put your kid in school, you get what you get, right? I know there are many other parents in the class who aren’t happy about it, so hopefully that will change soon.
Well, I’m fighting an allergy/bronchitis thing right now and just don’t have any more energy for this. Short & sweet for today. Pictures to come!
