Day 2
Posted by: | CommentsWow, almost missed day 2 of NaBloWriMo! Had several things I was thinking about blogging, but of course my day got ahead of me. I’m too sleepy to blog for now. I’ll leave you with cute:
Yes, Virginia, there is a So-Called Homeschool
Posted by: | CommentsYep, I’m still here, the kids are still great, baby’s still adorable. I’ll be back to blog some more, but she’s sleeping so I’m going to try to get a little snooze in before she wakes up again!
In lieu of real blogging . . .
Posted by: | CommentsHad family here over Easter, will blog more about it when I actually make some time to blog. In the meanwhile, pictures!

More fluffy cuteness!
Posted by: | CommentsOK, I promise one of these days I’ll actually WRITE a post, but really how can I resist?
Fluffy Mail!
Posted by: | CommentsYep, I have joined the cult of cloth diapers!!! I won a swap on one of the message boards I’m on and got some cloth diapers. They shipped last week and I was afraid they were lost, but they showed up today and they’re so cute!!! I tried them on Fiona and love them. She’s fussing in this picture, not because she doesn’t like the dipes, but because she HATES to be naked!
And, to add to my crunchiness quotient, here are some sling pics too. WHY didn’t I use this stuff with the first three kids? Oh, well, when you know better you do better, right?

Babies are so much fun! She’s doing a lot better at night. We had a couple of weeks of serious colic but it seems to have ended. I was trying to eliminate whatever was bugging her but never really found it and now she’s fine. She’s still up a couple of times a night to nurse, other than that it’s right back to sleep. Finally. I’m praying it keeps up, those 4am bedtimes were killing me!
Sweetness Overdose
Posted by: | CommentsIt occurs to me that I have sadly neglected this blog — and neglected posting enough baby pictures. Fiona has discovered that she can smile and does it well and often! Enjoy!!!
Oh, daddy is in so much trouble when she gets big!!!

You can click on the pics to see them larger and much more cuteness. If you can’t see them (and I know you online), e-mail me at jemaster (at) gmail (dot) com, and give me your Flickr username so I can add you as a friend.
Note to self . . .
Posted by: | CommentsBeans and rice is a dish that no breastfeeding mom should eat. Ever. For any reason. Even if it seems yummy at the time and uses up leftovers. Ever. Really.
Four am is NOT a bedtime. Just sayin’.
ZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Posted by: | CommentsRemember how I was saying that Fiona was pretty good at night, just waking up to nurse and going back to sleep? Yeah, that ended about a week ago. For some reason now she’s fussy between about 10 or so until around 1 or 2am. It’s not as bad as colic (Pink Pixie was a colicky baby, I know all about that), she just fusses off and on, not sleeping and not able to decide if she wants to nurse or not. Unfortunately for Squid, two days a week he has to get up at 2am to be at work at 3. Last night was rough — about the time Fiona got settled, Monkey Boy started crying and calling for Mommy. He has this weird ailment — his feet hurt at night. Not every night, just once or twice every couple of weeks. They’re fine all day. Anyway, Squid didn’t sleep much and I didn’t sleep much more. Because at 7am Fiona didn’t really wake up, but she was having some, erm, gastrointestinal issues which were evidenced by very loud grunting and groaning until she woke up around 9am. Hopefully she’ll take a good nap this afternoon or it’s going to be a very long day.
I’m not complaining — I love this baby and the chance to do this all one more time. But I’m just a little on the sleepy side today!
She’s here!!!
Posted by: | CommentsPictures as soon as I upload them.
We headed to the hospital about 10 Wednesday night, she was born 11:45! She’s 8lb, 19 inches long, and is nursing like a champ. More story later. Thanks for all the prayers and well-wishes!!!
Here we go again . . .
Posted by: | CommentsContractions 10 minutes apart, consistently, and harder than before. I’ve lost my plug, so I’m pretty sure this is it this time!!! I’ll try to post again before we leave. I don’t have internet from my phone, but do have MSN Messenger. If you want, I can IM when we get closer. E-mail jemaster (at) gmail (dot) com with your MSN ID if you want me to!
I think we may be getting started . . .
Posted by: | Comments. . . or maybe not. Update Wednesday 2:00pm: Had another NST — NO contractions at all. Her heartrate is a little lower than usual, but still in the normal range. Starting to get ticked off. I am so ready to have this baby!
UPDATE 11:15 pm: They seem to have started up again, 5-10 minutes apart. Pray this is it!
UPDATE 4:30pm 11/20: Still nothing new. Contractions stop and start. I’m getting really aggravated!!!

Yesterday after taking the girls to school, I was feeling a little crampy. Nothing distinct, but that’s how my other 3 labors started, that achey AF feeling. I took a nap, then went to my NST. Sure enough, it was showing light contractions. They didn’t seem to be doing much, I was just 1.5 cm dilated and 60% effaced, but hey it’s something! I was getting some crampy contractions through the afternoon, maybe 30 min apart, but not really regular. I let my babysitter know that probably nothing til today, thinking that they’d probably get worse during the night. Nope. Had a great night’s sleep — which is probably a good thing. This morning, off and on 20 minutes apart. I am sure hoping they ramp up today, I am TIRED of waiting around with no news for anyone.
MOM!!! I will call you when things get more real. I won’t let you read it here, lol!!!
Squid won’t let me take his laptop to the hospital to blog from there. Party pooper. I’ll get on and update before we go, or if things stall out again.
Baby Update
Posted by: | CommentsFor those who are interested . . .
Doctor’s appointment Friday morning, 1cm dilated, nothing new from last week. Nothing new happening, a few twinges and Braxton Hicks, and she’s having fun grinding her head around on my bones — and sciatic nerves somehow. Other than that things are about the same. Next appointment is the 19th.
Squid’s Word about Fiona
Posted by: | CommentsOr week, or month, whatever. He doesn’t post much, but when he does, wow.
Yes, I am still alive.
Posted by: | CommentsReal life has such a way of getting in the way of the internet, doesn’t it? I have meant to blog so many times and then just didn’t take the time to do it. In my defense, if I have a choice between blogging and napping, at this point, naps win out every time!
I mentioned a possibly life-changing trip to Florida in my last post. Well, life is NOT changing. At least not to Florida. Squid had a worship ministry possibility in the Tampa area, but it didn’t work out. To be honest, we are both a bit relieved. If God had called us to sell our house in the worst Michigan economy in history and move to Florida a month after the birth of our 4th child, we would have done it. But I’m a little glad He didn’t. We both have been involved with music and theatre auditions enough to know the difference between not being good at something and not being the right person for the job. Squid is quite confident that it was the latter — and in ministry especially you don’t want to be in an job if you are not the man for the job. Now, though, we’re a bit adrift and trying to figure out WHAT God has in store for us.
Homework is still stinking! It is a bit better, time-wise, but still a struggle. I just feel like the girls get NO time to play. Saturdays they get some time, but then there’s the chores they didn’t do all week because of homework. Squid has noticed, though, that the work is actually a little easy for them. They know the facts, it just takes a long time for them to write the answers out because we haven’t done a lot of desk work at home. So . . . he is actually thinking about bringing them home! Homework is just busywork if they’re not learning anything new. I’m going to have to take a more organized approach for this to work, though, and this whole school thing has really helped me see their strengths and weaknesses to work on. I’m not promising them anything yet — Pink Pixie begs me every single day to quit school and come home — but we’ll see how the rest of the semester goes.
Speaking of homework and school, we had a marathon homework session this past Friday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoon because the girls left Monday morning with Nana and Papa for DISNEYWORLD!!! You’d think I would have had more time to blog this week, but we decided to do some decorating while they’re gone. I think I’ve mentioned elsewhere on this blog that we own a 2-bedroom 1086 sf bungalow. Technically it’s a 3-bedroom since the bungalow is finished. Squid and I have taken it because we have a king-sized bed and it just doesn’t fit well with other furniture in the smaller bedrooms. But with Fiona on the way we have been tossing around the idea of turning the upstairs into the Girls Dormitory. This week has turned into a bit of Trading Spaces around here. We painted their room for us, and today started painting the upstairs pink for them. Unfortunately, I did NOT check the paint chip before ordering paint as the website suggests and we have ended up with Pepto Bismol pink as the accent wall color. It was supposed to be more of a rosy color. I’m going to have to do some texturing, glazing, sponging, or something, because Squid just came downstairs after observing my cutting-in and said it looks like someone threw up Pepto Bismol on the wall. Not exactly Blush and Bashful. The girls will love it anyway, it was panelling — not the really cool knotty pine that 1940’s bungalows are known for, but cheapo crappy panelling. So today was Kilz and cutting in the hot pink and tomorrow will be rolling the Pepto and doing the lighter pink. Then it’s move all the furniture that is currently residing in my dining room BACK into the rooms it belongs in. I may not be back on for a couple of days. But I promise it won’t be two more weeks.
OH, on the baby front: Things are great. She’s moving a lot, I have to go for non-stress tests TWICE A WEEK because of my ‘advanced maternal age’. Really. I have no other problems, my blood pressure is fine, my blood sugar is fine, I have no problems at all. Good thing the office is only 5 minutes away. It’s actually kind of nice, I snooze in an easy chair with my feet up and click this little clicker when Fiona kicks. Peaceful!
Well, see ya after the painting’s done. I’ll post pictures!
